I want this. Now.

It's called the Levitron. But who cares what it's called, because it's simply awesome. It uses a technique called spin stabilized magnetic levitation to keep the top stabilized in mid-air, giving it the illusion of "anti-gravity." Now, since I don't know how magnets work, I'm not going to talk about how it actually functions. Alternatively, you could check out their page which explains the physics behind the Levitron by clicking here.

  1. oh man, those've been around for a while... Had my own for a while, they're actually pretty hard to get going.

  6. Have you ever heard of high temperature super-conducting magnets? They are so cool. They can actually levitate at a fixed position like this except that if you try to push them into the other magnet, it will resist and if you try to pull them away it will also resist movement.

  10. put it in a vacuum, add some more magnets so the poles change when it spins, add a coil around the the spinning magnet part. boom! infinite energy!!!
that or merely the illusion of it.

  11. I have seen those before but kind of forgot about them. Makes me wonder what other amazing techs I've forgotten about.

  13. That is awesome. I kept hitting my sound button thinking some sound was supposed to come out or something! haha... I've seen physicists do something like this with rats or frogs. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1vyB-O5i6E
